(PhD program that includes a component in extreme environments)

The University of Lisbon new PhD in Planetary Health will begin in October 2025, with applications opening on March 3.

This Doctoral Programme will address the most critical global challenges at the intersection of health, environmental, social and political sciences, at local, regional and planetary levels, essential to the concept of planetary health. In this PhD, students will be able to develop solutions and apply them in the laboratory or in virtual environments through collaborative teamwork.

The Programme involves the 18 Schools of the University of Lisbon and specialists from various areas and sectors, both academic and non-academic, committed to promoting an environment conducive to high quality, high impact research.

Specializations – Six areas of specialization at the end of the first year

📢 After three months since returning from Antarctica and with all the cargo and samples finally in Portugal, the scientists of the Coastantar 2024 expedition invite you to learn more and discuss the expedition and its logistical and scientific outcomes.

👉 The session will feature a brief presentation by the expedition coordinators, followed by a conversation with scientists from the universities of Lisbon, Algarve, and Coimbra.

🥪 Accompanied by some snacks and drinks, come learn more about polar sciences in Portugal ❄️, get to know the projects and participants 👩‍🔬, and also see some of the equipment used 🔬.
