Polar2E started on the 25th March with the series of Early Career Researcher webinars aiming at promoting cooperation among our team members and also to train on presenting research results. The 1st of a series of webinars was presented by Pedro Freitas, PhD student at IGOT about his research on permafrost thaw lakes by remote sensing.
The University of Lisbon College on Polar and Extreme Environments was launched in the 6 March 2020 in a public event with the participation of the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Prof. Manuel Heitor, and the Rector of the University of Lisbon, Prof. António da Cruz Serra. The session was jointly organized with the new Tropical College and included a round-table and debate with the public on the objectives of the colleges. The questions from the public focussed on the possibilities of extension of Polar2E to other schools of ULisboa, especially in the area of Social Sciences, as well as on the potential for cooperation on Antarctic research with Angola.
The two new colleges of the University of Lisbon: Polar2E – Polar and Extreme Environments and CTrop – Tropical will be presented next friday at 15:00 at the Salão Nobre (Reitoria da Universidade de Lisboa, Alameda da Cidade Universitária).
The session will consist on an introduction by the Rector of ULISBOA, followed by a presentation of the colleges and their objectives by the respective directors. The opening will be followed by a round-table with researchers of the two colleges including a debate with the public.
An ice-breaker and an opportunity for networking will take place at 17:15.
